Apparently the dinky genius town of Eureka hasn’t quite race out of disasters yet, even with the destruction of the Artifact.

In fact, Eureka’s problems pick up worse as the show’s writing becomes better, starting with the citizens bursting into flame. The second season of “Eureka” is more confident and well-balanced than the previous one, and it takes the characters, quirky humor and tight writing into brand-new territory. Including Carter walking around naked.

The timeline has been restored, and Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Henry (Joe Morton) are trying to adjust to their past lives. Carter also is convinced that the future will unfold objective as it did in the other timeline.

But during a solar flare viewing, a guy violently combusts — and soon other people inaugurate combusting. Carter searches for a link between the victims, and finds that someone arrive him may be next. Meanwhile, the Pentagon decides to buy Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn) from Global Dynamics’ broad chair, and replace him with his estranged wife Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) . My, that’s awkward.

Other problems pop up over the season — shared dreams, personal forcefields, “ice funnels of death,” falling debris clouds attracted to the GD headquarters, invisibility projects, Fargo’s frozen grandpa, Biblical plagues, Carter becoming unnaturally elegant to all women, and an attempt to recreate the Expansive Bang that apparently turns everyone (except Carter) into driveling idiots.

But while the Artifact has been effectively destroyed, its presence is smooth felt — Allison’s autistic son Kevin has formed a peculiar connection to it. And when a shimmering scientist creates a deadly alchemical bacterium — which turns all iron into gold, then rust — it may lead to a showdown over Kevin’s future….

There’s a darker novel running through the second season of “Eureka” — Henry is more subdued and petrified, and a exiguous boy’s life is in exertion. But don’t concern, because thankfully the writers don’t switch too far into the shadowy zone — the focus is always first and foremost on our Everyman Sheriff, and how he tries to deal with the Horrific Crisis of the day.

In fact, the second season flows very easily, with a more relaxed glide and a colourful, diverse array of science-based problems — including robot geese. There’s lots of tall dialogue (”Jo made it seem like the sky is falling.” “That hasn’t happened since 2004, and that was more of an igniting of the ionosphere”) and hilarious comedic moments, such as Carter’s naked public shower and the shared Zorro fantasy. But there are some sweet moments too, such as Fargo’s grandfather coming to terms with the life he missed out on.

I wasn’t too impressed by Ferguson in “Eureka’s” debut season, but he really gets to blossom in this one — he’s quirkier, cuter and has a knack for physical comedy. He fits in better with the Eurekans. And he brings a lot of life to Jack’s problems, whether it’s the outlandish stuff, or the more realistic threat of his ex-wife taking his daughter out of Eureka.

Quinn and Richardson Whitfield also do well, as Allison and Nathan try to adjust to their current positions, as well as some renewed sparks. And the other characters come by rounding out — Jo gets in touch with her inner girly-girl, Zoe clashes with some genius “mean girls,” Taggart has a maternal experience, and Fargo gets in touch with some family members. Also has to deal with the possibility of dying.

Of particular note: Morton brings a feeling of dismal pathos into many of Henry’s appearances, reminding us what he’s lost and leaving us wondering what he’s planning. And it’s worth noting that a trio of “Stargate SG-1″ actors create some very solid guest appearances — particularly Michael Shanks as an embittered, myth-obsessed scientist.

The second season of “Eureka” sticks to the laughable sci-fi angle, but expands the characters — as well as some of the darker subplots. Definitely a vast slight series, and promises to pause fun and suspenseful.

If you indulge in a favorable deal of comedy with your SciFi you will probably bask in Eureka. There certainly are plenty of serious events, but with a regular mix of comedy to sustain things from getting to murky. Kind of like the X-Files which had plenty of serious episodes but then were visited by unique people including “The Lone Gunmen” to sustain things in perspective. The second season is a must have for anyone that bought the first. This season continues the investigation of the alien artifact along with the further emersion of Sheriff Jack Carter and Zoe into Eureka’s community.

Many of the budding relationships have now fizzled and unusual ones have began that may seem less weird or more depending on your perspective. This is not high brow SciFi for the most piece although some of the ideas are based on conceivable research. Eureka is a town of Mensa types that have their fill projects and inventions that they accomplish. It seems they aren’t under the same rules as the rest the country so anything can happen when their experiaments go irascible. Excellent quality DVDs and genuine replayability, but I’m tranquil not crazy about cardboard fold up conceal.

The DVD is a barebones release.Nothing at all.Dont inquire in the come future any special edition.But if you really like this film fetch because honest study at the imprint 4 dollars.Who can beat that.

A provocative and lickety-split film with grand performances.Not a abominable heist film with no pleased ending for a change than most cliché films.Any Steve McQueen fans should sight this to sight at the commence of this legend’s career.

At 63, and a friend shiny I was from “Dago Hill” in St.Louis, we were chatting about how things had changed in our world. He being an avid Cardinals fan, as myself, we starting telling stories about Ole’ St. Louis. When I told him about being an early teenager, my father owning the lickety-split shop”Tom’s Grill” and watching the making of the movie, meeting Steve McQueen,in person, seeing the tedious the scenes operation, he was intrigued and asked me a lot about the sage. As we sat talking my wife looked at me and suggested we go to Amazon.com, gape if the movie was downloadable and peep it. Well, needless to say it brought benefit many memories, and since my father died in 1981, I got to examine him, alive, young and in the movie in the restaurant scenes when Steve was timing things and had the argument with the girl.

My father obviously is “Tom”, owner of the grill, I remember many of the valid police officers in the movie as well as those that were fervent in the trusty robbery. In the scene where the police cars are coming out of the state to retort to the bank, they are coming out of the 2nd district police situation on Hampton Ave. which was apt tedious my house. Since I veteran to go to the situation, shoot my .22 rifle in the basement range, establish the flag up on week-ends, I got to know many of the officers that also knew my dad. As well as sometimes sneaking a bolt on the help of one of the police motorcycles from time to time.

Yes, it brought befriend many memories, the movie itself was of course outrageous budget, murky and white, a very young Steve and refreshingly not beefy of sex, and tons of profanity.

To Amazon, I can only say thank you, from my heart, I am now a semi-retired used police officer, on reserves, and a PhD meteorologist here in Carlsbad, Novel Mexico.

In missing broken-down St.Louis, the movie actually reminded me of the times as a kid, crawdad fishing and bike riding in Tower Grove park, having sat under that very pagoda in the movie when the gang members met.

So, especially if your an ragged St. Louis resident or fair want to peek how it looked with the outmoded 50’s cars, cheap gas, and a nostalgic hamburger expeditiously food shop, I highly recommend you witness this movie: “The Gigantic St. Louis Bank Robbery”

“Goldeneye” was sizable. “Tomorrow Never Dies” was expedient. “The World Is Not Enough” was helpful. Pierce Brosnan, no matter what cranky critics say, is a wonderful Bond, who is sort of like a melting pot of the past actor’s best attributes. Connery’s vicious edge, Moore’s comic wit, and Dalton’s brutality. Another thing that makes Brosnan a keeper is that, like Connery and Moore, he has fun with Bond. Dalton and Lazenby made the mistake of taking this as a serious acting job. It isn’t. TWINE does have a titanic script which is understandable (I guess a lot of people who complained unprejudiced weren’t attentive, since very few unique movies require that.) Renard may have been a lame awful guy, but Carlisle did play him well and believably – isn’t that all that counts? Denise Richards, however funny she was as Christmas Jones, did well with her material. And, the plot I eye at it, she wasn’t evne the main Bond woman this time around. Sophie Marceau is perhaps one of the sexiest Bond women ever to grace the silver conceal. There was no doubt that she was the perfect choice for Elektra King, playing the good-girl gone abominable to a tee. I hope she is more visible in future years.

Pierce Brosnan’s third 007 outing, “The World Is Not Enough” has all the ingrediants die hard fans of the series treasure, explosions, frigid action, blooming women and of course Bond himself played by Brosnan, but somehow the film skips a beat. First off, this 19th Bond fable begins with a bang. Before the title sequence even starts, Bond has escaped recall from zigzag bankers, survived a massive explosion which guts out MI6 headquarters and pursues a really shapely female assasin in what must be the most suped up jet boat in cinema history. It’s honest a shame that the rest of the film can’t top the bright first ten or twelve minutes.

The dwelling is Bond appropriate, Agent 007 is sent to protect a heiress to an oil industry who has been targeted by a neat terrorist who is impervious to afflict, he has a bullet lodged in his brain. Before long, Bond embroiled in a complicated (and hard to follow) place to rule the oil industry and then the world. What is disappointing about this installment is the films sometimes unimaginative trek and final battle scene.

The climax of the film takes region on a submarine and is too reminiscent of the demolish of “Tomorrow Never Dies”. However, the strengths of the film are in the suprisingly strong performances (excluding Denise Richards) . M has a more prominant role in this round which makes sense because she’s played again by Oscar winner Judi Dench. Her M character is for more empathetic this time and you can advise that she is concerned about Bond’s safety. This is a welcome set development and I hope that Brosnan and Dench have more dramatic scenes with each other in future Bond films.

I judge I know why this film was so poorly received and tanked at the box office. It was TOO “inside”. Powerful of this film is a series of jokes about the standard, worn, formulaic, bombastic action film genre. But the humor was so tongue-in-cheek so often that it probably didn’t bode well with the average action-junkie film fan. “Last Action Hero” made fun of itself as it unfolded, and one would need a clear sense of humor to fully enjoy it on its intended level. I dare say that most folks who went to this film honest didn’t “find it”. Too unpleasant for them.

The major flaw of the DVD is that the film is presented in the god-awful Pan and Scan format. Pan and Scan presentations of frenetically-shot widescreen films should be outlawed, it’s fair that simple. You almost score a headache watching this P&S version. The digital pan is so obtrusive and distracting that it can drive one to enrage! It pulls you out of the film, to say the least. I like (but don’t really cherish) this film, and the gross mark of the DVD makes the capture a no-brainer. But it is too optically gloomy to witness in P&S.

Release it in widescreen and all will be okay.

This is one of those movies that a lot of people that haven’t seen it say, “That movie wasn’t really that agreeable, was it? ” but those that have seen it, say, “Why wasn’t this movie more common? ” Maybe it was abominable timing, or as some others suggested, fair not correctly billed to the public.

Last Action Hero is hard to picture. It’s comic, it’s witty, with lots of those one-liners that Arnold became so celebrated with, and I loved the procedure he constantly poked fun at his fictional character as well as his “accurate” self. Some of my common dialogue in the movie is when the kid is trying to convince “character Arnold (aka: Jack Slater) ” that he’s actually objective a character in a movie. The kid starts asking about phone numbers and how can they possibly all begin with 555- in a city with several million phone numbers, when Jack Slater exasperatedly says, “That’s why we have Originateplace Codes…” Priceless. The movie is paunchy of fun stuff like that, and I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is even remotely a Schwarzenegger fan, or who impartial like campy, yet vivid, movies. The parody within a parody, and movie within a movie actually worked well in this one.

I opinion the movie had a lot of stout character performances, and clever scripting, and I judge this movie got a bum rap. It’s really a huge movie, I’m tickled I bought the DVD. The transfer is a slight sloppy in places on the one I bought, but since it’s a “Special Anniversary Edition”, I have a feeling that had something to do with it. There’s only a fullscreen version on my DVD, no widescreen, and the camera pans are really noticeable in a few places.

MGM’s latest installment of the Midnite Movies gives us a double feature of slow sixties biker films. In Angel Unchained, biker Angel gives up his colors to go on his maintain. On his contrivance to finding himself he runs into A couple hippies hassled by some goobery dune buggy people. Of course he takes the hippies’ side because one of them is a young Tyne Daly, and next thing you know, the fight over the lettuce patch begins at the hippie compound to the point where Angel’s broken-down bros need to be called in (note: in the pacing of the film he finds them dreadful snappy… were they around the block pretending not to follow him, or what? ) . High points are the Aldo Ray scene as an older sheriff presiding over a parking lot brawl, and Daly as the savor interest- she had that street incandescent timbre to her scream even benefit then which lends a credibility in the scene of her botched attack. Flippin the disc, we have Bruce Dern in “Cycle Savages”, a mighty smaller and more soundstagey (read: cheap) film than “Angel Unchained”. Dern hams it up to the point where I contemplate that perhaps they told him the status and he fair impovised his lines- it’s a fun thing to observe. This film is so bleak it would do Hubert Selby, Jr. drink Clorox. There is A likeable character in this film, and even he comes off as a dolt. A starving artist draws a bunch of biker sketches (hello:dum conception) and they determine to near up with a intention to wound him by having a mongolian cluster and raping a girl with an ice cream cone. (…no, excuse me. She’s having an ice cream cone and they rob her aid and rape her. That would impartial be sick.) So, anyway, they arrive up with an concept for hurting him at the same time the bike gang’s leader is using the downstair’s neighbor as a tail for the artist because her sister is being sent down the road of brain control and depravity by the leader, but she’s falling in adore with the artist…you behold where this is heading. So, “Angel Unchained” is a remarkable better film of the two, but you’ll like “Cycle Savages” if you like your soap operas with a beneficial chain whupping time and again (I’d like to gawk that on “Days of Our Lives”. ANGEL UNCHAINED (1970; 86 minutes) : Don Stroud stars as an Arizona biker who decides he’s had enough of the biker lifestyle. He roams off and ends up at a hippie commune where he hooks up with a young Tyne Daly. It doesn’t rob long for redneck cowboy dune buggy riders to enter the relate (I’m not making this up) . They try to lunge the hippies away. Hence, Stroud goes attend to his biker buddies to enlist them to serve stave off the rednecks.

“Angel Unchained” is definitely a Grade C flick. You’ll witness this moral off at the amusing carnival brawl sequence. This is not top notch filmmaking, that’s for positive. Despite this, after about 30-40 minutes I strangely started getting alive to in the story; I actually started caring about the characters and what would ultimately happen, even though I shouldn’t have. The bikers are depicted as wild outcasts revelers (who drink and exhaust drugs), but generally likable at the same time. The scenic Arizona locations are a highlight.

The destroy credits showcase each actor individually in that dramatic diagram that feeble to be current (e.g. “The Dirty Dozen”) ; all it did for me was compose me bust out in hilarious laughter. Imprint TO THE FILMMAKERS: It wasn’t a apt or serious enough film to warrant such a frail closing.

THE CYCLE SAVAGES (1969; 85 minutes) : This one starts off like it might be a decent biker flick in the manner of “Angel Unchained.” The hard rock theme (pre-heavy metal) is delicious and the opening credits sequence is imaginative. Unfortunately these are the only reliable things I can say about this flick. The position is really really DUMB; like it was conjured up by a 12 year-old. It involves immoral biker leader Bruce Dern getting upset over a sketch artist for making drawings of his gang in wild revelry. Apparently, Dern believes the sketches can be venerable to convict him and his gang (WHY Obvious!) . The dialogue and acting are unbiased as abominable.

Bottome Line: I can’t utter you how unpleasant this “film” is. It’s only worthwhile as a period-piece oddity.

If you want to plan a really enormous tedious 60s/early 70s biker flick, accept the very first one, the unsuitable “The Wild Angels” from 1966 starring Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Nancey Sinatra and Diane Ladd. “The Wild Angels” is simultaneously incredibly evil and profoundly shimmering (yes, even though it’s essentially a Roger Corman ‘B’ film) . Woody Allen has said that European audiences are more receptive to his films these days than American audiences. Cristina–a dilettantish photographer/filmmaker who is defined by the fact that she only knows what she DOESN’T want in a relationship with a man–finds greater satisfaction with Juan Antonio, at least until Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz), Juan Antonio’s volatile, insanely jealous ex-wife, shows up.

Some critics have opined that “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is a hackneyed blast at naive Americans left at sea by European sexual sophistication. However, I believe it’s more a delineation of Woody’s basic opinion that happiness in esteem is transitory at best. How can you possibly have up Juan Antonio and Maria Elena–who are constantly at each other’s throats, to the point that Maria Elena brandishes knives and guns–as an example of sexual sophistication? They can’t live with each other, they can’t live without each other, but she may ruin up killing him, herself, and a few innocent bystanders. As enacted in a scintillating performance by Cruz, Maria Elena embodies the eternal irrationality of treasure, a blind craziness that–at least in Woody’s view–stamps an irrevocable expiration date on even the tenderest, most ardent esteem.

Not quite a comedy but certainly not a tragedy, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is a rueful commentary on the constant dissatisfactions of esteem and life, made all the more bittersweet by the heartbreakingly sparkling scenes of Barcelona and Catalunya wrapped in golden light by photographer Javier Aguirresarobe. The film offers us multiple pleasures–not least the satisfactory performances–yet, in the raze, it feels microscopic. There are too many of Woody’s familiar tropes for us to capture the film at face value, especially the overly familiar characters; personally, I’m tired of the pretty, nubile young “Woody women” who are drawn vaguely toward a career in the arts yet are completely confused about everything except their need for hot sex. And, yes, Woody, we got the point decades ago that you reflect life and the Universe meaningless; why do you always have to have one character in every movie (in this case, Juan Antonio) verbalize that understanding baldly? “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is worth seeing, but it falls short of being one of Woody’s masterpieces.

I know everyone will luxuriate in these episodes as distinguished as I did. I’ve spent the last 24 hours watching all 39 episodes & let me shriek you there Vast!! The portray quality is spacious, the sound is big. No problems here!! There are many well known stars in this dwelling that were unprejudiced starting out when AHP aired on tv. A lot of the episodes seen in this situation, were never seen on Lop at Night. I archaic to study them when they were on & I would have remembered them. I know everyone will be very ecstatic with this status. Universal finally did the legal thing by putting them on 5 single sided DVD’S. I wish I could give this situation more than 5 stars. This status is well worth the money that you will pay for it. THANK YOU UNIVERSAL FOR FINALLY DOING IT Lawful!!!!!

With this second-season box location of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment releases the second installment of one of the greatest television series of all time – with absolutely fabulous report quality and totally botched-up editing that seems almost to raze the experience. At least, that’s what I opinion at first.

One of the troubling things about Universal’s first two box sets (another is on its diagram, covering the third season) is that Alfred Hitchcock’s introductions and postscripts aren’t the ones we’ve advance to know and esteem after more than 40 years of syndicated re-runs. Because it’s not unbiased the heinous and subversive stories that corrupt this series one of the high-water marks of television. It’s also Alfred Hitchcock’s presence as host, with his humorous delivery, his apparent delight in assassinate, and his determined distaste for being interrupted by commercials.

For those of us who admire this exhibit, Universal’s first box status was a mixed bag. We’d been waiting for it since like, forever. The technical process of the remastering had been accomplished beautifully. But the product was presented on a type of disk (double-sided, double-density) that played poorly in most DVD machines. And even worse, Alfred Hitchcock’s introductions and postscripts were edited so badly that many of them seemed incoherent. (A few of the shows were exactly as they aired originally – they even contained a title card indicating that the prove was “Brought to you by Bromo-Seltzer,” which was deleted when the note went into syndication – but most of the shows appeared to be edited, and not very skillfully, either.) Wherever Hitchcock made a nasty comment about his sponsor, the footage was snipped, and even if you hadn’t been a fan, you would have noticed something was missing. Most of Hitchcock’s appearances on these disks seemed like a joke without a punchline. It was hard to understand why Universal would commit such an atrocity. Did some scissors-happy gnome in Hollywood assume we’d be confused if Hitchcock made droll remarks about the upcoming commercial, if the DVD didn’t gain the commercial?

I was so dismayed by that first-season spot that when the second was released, I delayed a year before buying a copy. Judging by the furious comments I saw on this forum, I could leer that this second-season region had the same scrape.

But now that I’ve finally bought the site and I’ve started watching these disks, I mediate I finally understand what happened. It’s the strangest thing: Universal, without explanation, has decided to give us the BRITISH version of the indicate.

One thing few people know is that Hitchcock filmed multiple introductions for each program – one for American audiences, one for the British, and one for the French (or so I’ve read) . In the second-season box status, the introductions and postscripts are decidedly different than the ones that we saw in America. A few of them are edited from the American versions, but most of them do not appear to have been edited, and these follow a remarkable different format than the ones that aired in the states. If you search for closely, you’ll inspect that there is no station where a commercial might have been inserted. At the same time, the teach is decidedly un-American.

I’ll offer a couple of examples. One of the clearest clues comes in the introduction to the episode, “Nightmare in 4-D.” Hitchcock’s comments inaugurate,

“Superior evening. Tonight’s play is entitled ‘Nightmare in 4-D.’ It will be presented in only two dimensions, however. We could note it in 3-D. In fact, we did in America, but the viewers kept getting alive to, and during one of the more violent scenes we lost half our audience. We wouldn’t want that to happen here.”

In another program, we accept a clue that is even more telling. In the postscript to the episode “Crackpot,” we peep Hitchcock standing in what he describes as an impregnable “sealed chamber.” Suddenly, from tedious him, someone pounds on the wall with a sledgehammer and knocks a hole in the plaster. “I knew it,” Hitchcock says. “It’s the I.T.A. It’s futile to try to flee. We shall be befriend with another play. Don’t you try to dash.”

This had me scratching my head — it’s a reference that means absolutely nothing to me, and I’m determined it means nothing to anyone in this country. But after a microscopic searching on the Internet, I found out what Hitchcock must have meant. He must have been referring to Britain’s Independent Television Authority, a commercial network that started operation two years before this particular episode was shown.

Suddenly everything makes sense, and since Universal hasn’t bothered answering customer emails, and its DVD packaging contains no information about the source of the shows, let me outline a scenario that might elaborate it all. In Britain, Hitchcock’s present must have been presented on the BBC, which didn’t carry commercials – and so all those unsuitable remarks about the sponsor wouldn’t have made any sense. In the first season, these references were crudely deleted, along with the fade-to-black points where commercials might have been inserted. (Perhaps the series hadn’t been picked up in Britain at the time the first-season episodes were filmed.) But for the second season, Hitchcock filmed additional introductions and postscripts for the British market, a gargantuan improvement over the previous season. If I’m moral about this, I yell these DVDs are a exiguous more authentic than I view before. My outrage has been subdued.

But is the British version the factual version to be presenting in a “definitive” collection of the series? Absolutely not.

It’s an American explain. Always was, always will be. It aired first on American networks. The American version is the most complete. After 40 years of re-runs, we Inquire Of Hitchcock to say outrageous things about the upcoming commercial, and when he doesn’t, we feel cheated. Heck, it wasn’t so long ago that these shows were running every day on cable TV. It’s not as if the American shows have been lost – we’ve been watching them all along. This British format unprejudiced doesn’t feel true. Even if the editing was done 50 years ago, many of the butchered introductions and postscripts don’t produce sense; at best, they don’t glide very well. And the ones specially-filmed for the British audience don’t strike me as intelligent as the ones we saw over here. (Perhaps they might be included on future releases as a “Bonus Feature.”)

I hope Universal did the just thing and archaic the American version of the demonstrate in its Season Three box space. We’ll know when it comes out next month. At least Universal got one thing just in this second release – it abandoned the double-sided disks. The standard-type disks in this dwelling appear to play perfectly. (I probably should get a technical point here as well, to avoid confusion — this might be the British version of the point to, but there are none of the problems associated with PAL to NTSC transfers, because the indicate was produced on film in the first location.)

Look, this is one of the best TV series ever. The stories are classics, and there’s a style to this point to we rarely explore today, emphasizing character rather than action or cinematography. The unusual packaging was absolutely vivid, with those witty Hitchcock bits at the beginning and raze of each program. The sheer number of these shows is absolutely staggering – there were some 260 episodes of the half-hour Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and another three seasons of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. I can’t wait to prefer them all. I guess this is my scheme of saying that the method this explain is presented – it matters.

Those Brits didn’t know what they were missing.

I remember very well the effect this film had on me right after leaving the theater; everywhere I looked on the drive home, people looked like cartoons. In Heavy Traffic, animation artist Ralph Bakshi presents us with a look at life in the early 70s (late 60s?), city style …. and this city is gritty, not entirely pretty ….

Michael Corleone (not the only reference to other popular films of the times) scribbles away at his drawing board while his Catholic father and Jewish mother wage Armageddon outside his door. He finds comfort and release seeing the world as an absurd, psychotic cartoon. Pretty much a loner, his main connection to the outside world is a black bargirl named Carol who works right downstairs from him and slips him drinks for his entertaining sketches. An unfortunate incident with a drag queen associate costs Carol her job, and she and Michael end up out on the streets together, since he can’t seem to make ANY sort of job situation come together. They form a sort of hustling alliance, with him as her pimp, and they nosedive into dark urban realms of the quick buck and the inevitable personal compromises involved.

All this is interposed with images of live city backdrops and numerous references to a pinball game. Ralph Bakshi’s animated vision is a moving work of underground pop art which, despite limitations, was a groundbreaking achievement that pushed the frontiers of American animation thousands of miles. I can see the influence of this film (and Bakshi’s work in general) on the likes of Matt Groening, Don Bluth, and yes, even parts of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Heavy Traffic is dark, rude and dangerous. At times it has an almost experimental feel, moving at a stream of consciousness pace more than any conventional narrative. Its portayal of characters is raw and extreme, has an exaggerated sort of believability to it. It also has the feel of a semi-autobiography, with its portayal of a creative misfit struggling against the odds for survival, if not personal validation.

This very personal work goes places other animations of the time wouldn’t even consider, was rated X at the time of its original release, and was re-released very shortly afterward in a lightly watered-down R-version. The recent DVD release appears to be a restoration of the original artwork, is a nice clean print, despite the full-frame format and mono soundtrack. It would be nice to see this touched up with a slightly refurbished soundtrack (it IS animation, after all); at the same time the compressed sound lends to the quaint sort of 70s feel to it, creating an air of nostalgia rivaling that of The Iron Giant. And these guys weren’t even trying!

My appreciation for this special film has not diminished over the years; indeed, I understand it a bit more as an adult. It captures the dark, skewed out, surrealistic beauty of the urban underbelly, delivers some nasty bellylaughs, shows us the world as an oversized cartoon arcade game, and reminds us that all we can do sometimes is just keep playing that game. Even if we do end up getting our head blown off by a paraplegic midget on a skateboard. This stuff happens …….

Breathtaking. Get past your own discomfort with relating to racial sterotypes and realize that this film is genius. A love story at heart, and perhaps one of the most profoundly honest and insightful films to date, Heavy Traffic broke the barriers of ‘political correctness’ before the people who coined that term were even born. If nothing else consider what is being said about settling for the familiar and not venturing outside of your personal neighborhood. Awe inspiring, Ralph Bakshi should be canonized.

A landmark film in many respects, “Dr. No” (1962) introduced Ian Fleming’s 007 to cinema audiences. Despite the author’s initial objections, Sean Connery defined the character of James Bond with his remarkably self-assured performance. Ursula Andress’ iconic beauty and Joseph Wiseman’s restrained villainy were equally memorable. Thanks to the contributions of director Terence Young, set designer Ken Adam, editor Peter Hunt and composer John Barry, the 007 style was immediately established in this Jamaican adventure. Producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli should be applauded for getting the most out of their limited budget. “Dr. No” succeeds as an unpretentious spy thriller – minus the gadgetry and gimmicks in later Bond outings. The film’s impact on popular culture cannot be underestimated.

My comments apply only to the newly released Blu Ray version.

I will not review the film it’s self since everyone has no doubt seen it at least once.

I have waited 2 years for the Bond films to be released in a HD format, and the waite was worth it.

The picture quality of this old film is simply awesome. The color saturation, the “depth” and contrast are very film-like.

I felt like I was discovering the film for the very first time.

Watching it on my 60” display, it looked like I was seeing a brand new, fresh from the lab, film print in my own living room.

And it gets better, I am told (but havent viewed my copy yet) that Thunderball looks even better.

If you are a Connery James Bond fan, and own Blu Ray, this is a no-brainer.

Highest possible recommendation, and Amazon has it for a good price.

The issue of the DVD today has yielded a few surprises. There is some interesting material included in the DVD with the Theatrical Trailer, Interviews with the Director and Robert Shaw and also a short Black and White film is shown on how it was filmed including footage of the German military advisor who insured an accurate detailing of uniforms, events, etc. in this basically fictitious account of the famous battle of world war 2. Now what needs to be said is that this is a polished transfer of the widescreen film. The overture is put back and all of the extras that were usually cut. Including the “Panzerlied” gathering of tank commanders that is sometimes missing from television broadcasts as well as the “save the son but shoot the father” scene. The musical score by Frankel is one of the best made in a war film presentation in a full orchestra by the New philharmonic. They have restored the original soundtrack to the DVD and it is impressive for a movie that was made in the 60’s. Someone cared about putting this one back together and it shows! Graphics, scenery, etc. are all very impressive. Although this movie was panned as to accuracy as far as the situation, it is a very entertaining movie and is well remembered by everyone who saw it in the movies when it was released. Seeing it again now, it is as if I were back in that movie house and as if time had not moved on. A GREAT release! Worth it to any fan of this film.

This is a classic war movie. Though lacking historical realism, its still an enjoyable film. Lots of tanks anyway. Big name actors (Fonda, Bronson, Andrews, Shaw, Savalas, and the like). Not really about the real Battle Of The Bulge, it takes some of the events from that famous battle and remolds it into a kinda ‘what-if’ story about a German armoured spearhead that launches an attack to cut off Allied forces, to buy time to build the new jet aircraft and nuclear weapons and win the war. Names of characters are all fiction.

What really disappoints me is that a lot of footage (at least 20 minutes worth) has been cut out from the original print. Please, Warner, release the FULL version on DVD!
